How to get solar finance, step by step

  1. Get one or two quotes from a Clean Energy Council accredited installer.
  2. Check your likely rate and repayment with us — a soft check only.
  3. We match the sharpest green loan on our lender panel for your amount and term.
  4. Sign digitally; the lender settles directly with your installer.
  5. Install goes ahead, and your first repayment starts the following month.

Solar rebates come first, finance second

Federal small-scale technology certificates and any state incentive are usually applied as a discount on your installer's quote, so you only finance what's left to pay. Read our guide to solar and battery rebates before you lock in an amount.

Solar panel finance FAQs

How does solar panel financing work in Australia?

+

You get a quote from a licensed installer, then borrow the installed cost through a green personal loan. The lender pays your installer directly and you repay in fixed monthly instalments over a term you choose, usually three to ten years. You own the system outright from day one, so all bill savings and any feed-in credits are yours.

Can I finance solar panels with no deposit?

+

Yes. Most green loans on our panel fund 100% of the installed quote, so you can go ahead with no upfront deposit. Paying a deposit simply reduces the amount you borrow and your monthly repayment.

Is financing solar panels worth it?

+

It depends on your system size, daytime usage and electricity tariff. Many households find the monthly repayment sits close to, or below, the amount their bill falls by — so the upgrade is close to cash-flow neutral while the system keeps producing long after the loan ends. Run your own numbers with the calculator and your installer's estimated output before deciding.

Does checking my solar loan rate affect my credit score?

+

No. We start with a soft check to show your likely rate and repayment. A credit enquiry is only recorded if you choose to submit a full application.

Can I pay my solar loan off early?

+

The green loan products we broker allow extra repayments and early payout. Some lenders charge a small early termination fee on fixed rates, so we confirm those terms with you in writing before you sign.
